Running Before the Thunderstorms Hit

May 8, 2010

Distance: 3 miles.

As I started my run, I spied an advertisement for “Ciroc”, which apparently is a kind of vodka.  All I could think about was Cirroc, AKA Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer.  It was a humorous start to my run.

Successes: I ran a little over a mile without stopping; I felt stronger throughout than in recent times past.

I am finding that I like running around the track much more than I have before.  I used to find it boring, now I use it as a tool for distance measurement, which at this stage is very helpful.  It’s also great to see so many people out being active and enjoying the fresh air.

The all weather track in the park has all sorts of stains on it.  In those stains I saw images of a chicken, a mermaid, and a dinosaur footprint.  Anything to keep my mind off the pain.  Another way I keep my mind off the pain is focusing on form, like how my feet are hitting the ground and how my arms are moving.  This time around I am using my arms a lot more and that helps immensely, more than I expected.

Last night I ate a lot - relatively speaking - of bread and potatoes.  I’ve noticed a pattern - if I eat a lot of starchy things the night before, it follows me during my run the following morning, weighing me down.  I wonder if eating mostly meat and veg for dinner would make a difference?  I will have to experiment with that this coming week.

Next run: Monday, 2 miles.

Onward!
