The Return of Joint Pain
May 13, 2010
Distance: 3 miles.
Successes: Knowing when to hold back and when to push forward. I appropriately addressed each of these this morning.
What a bizarre run. I felt really off this morning. I felt clumsy, my knees were a little achy, and my right ankle - the one I injured in Feb 2009 - started to hurt about 3/4 of a mile in. I decided to do more walking this time, which definitely helped. Also, widening my stride seemed to help the knees but not the ankle. Hm. At least shin splints are not haunting me.
Toward the end of mile 2, though, I was able to run a half mile without stopping, with no pain, and I was really proud of that. I felt that if I didn’t run any more during my session, my run was a success.
The painful ankle concerns me more than the knees. Hoping that the shorter spurts during the fartlek this weekend won’t be affected by this. Will keep an eye on it for sure. Will also do more stretching as well.
Next run: Saturday, 3 mile fartlek.
Onward!
