Early Saturday
May 29, 2010
Distance: 4 miles (fartlek).
Successes: Doing hill work for the first time and loving it. Getting up early on a Saturday. Grateful for cool morning weather.
I think I did 4 miles but not 100% certain. It might have been more like 3.75 miles. My distance estimate was informal, to say the least. I was able to do sprints more consistently within the fartlek, and focused on form - run on the front of the foot, keep those arms pumping.
I am getting more and more interested in running throughout the park, though I do recognize that the track is a useful tool.
I did my hill work on a hill I usually run down on my longer runs through the park. It’s just south of the Hellgate Bridge. It provided a perfect incline for what I wanted to do: run up the hill 100 yards at a ~5K pace, turn around and jog down the hill. I did this 4 times, which equals a half a mile. I want to incorporate more hill work into my workouts as a result.
It was a cloudy, cool morning - perfect!!
Next run: Monday, 3 miles.
Onward!
