5 Miles! 5 Miles!
June 5, 2010
Distance: 5 miles
Successes: running 5 miles! Running 1.7 miles straight and feeling ok afterwards. Persevering under less than desirable climate conditions.
I had been anticipating this run all week - for a while it was hard to get my head around that distance, but by the time I stepped out of the apartment this morning, I was ready. Running is such a mental thing, I’m constantly impressed by this.
My route was basically 3 trips around the park, with a little tail attached to the first trip. It was warm (~75) this morning, and quite humid, which was not ideal. However, there was a breeze blowing at times, and the sky was overcast, which helped. I was able to take 2 water breaks, too - I’ll do this in the future, as the water helped A LOT.
I experienced no knee pain during, or ankle pain. It was hard on my muscles, though. They are not used to this much continuous activity. I dream of a time when 5 mile seems easy. That being said, I believe the 5 mile runs in this training schedule are there to make the 4 mile runs seem easy.
I’m so proud of myself running this distance!
Next run: Monday, 4 miles.
Onward!
